Wedding Saree Guide 2026–27: Bride, Family and Guests

The easiest way to dress for the 2026–27 wedding season is to match the saree's weight to your role. The bride wears the heaviest zari, usually a Banarasi. Close family chooses rich but lighter silks such as Baluchari or hand-stitched Kantha. Guests pick one strong colour that doesn't compete with the bride.

For the bride: a Banarasi that carries the day

A Banarasi is built for a wedding. Dense zari gives it structure, the pallu photographs beautifully, and the silk holds pleats through hours of rituals.

Red remains the classic choice for a Bengali bride. Deep purple, wine, and teal are popular when you want something less expected but just as regal.

Plan the blouse at the same time; our guide to blouse designs for Banarasi sarees shows what suits heavy zari. For the drape itself, see Styling a Banarasi Saree in Classic Nivi Drape.

For the mother of the bride and close family

Family members are photographed almost as often as the couple, so their sarees should look rich without matching the bride's weight.

A Baluchari is ideal. Its pallu tells a story woven in silk, and it drapes more softly than heavy brocade. Try the Aubergine Baluchari for evening or the Teal Baluchari for a brighter look.

For daytime rituals, hand-stitched Kantha on tussar silk feels personal and light. The Indigo & Beige Bullion Kantha, with its swan-and-lotus pallu, is stitched entirely by hand.

For Gaye Holud, the turmeric ceremony, yellow is the tradition. The Ivory Yellow Heritage Baluchari keeps it festive without heavy gold.

For guests: one colour, one statement

As a guest, avoid bridal red and the heaviest gold. Choose one jewel tone or a soft pastel and let the pallu do the talking.

When to order so it arrives in time

We process orders within 24 hours of payment. Delivery within India takes 3–5 business days to metro cities and 5–7 to other areas.

Add your tailor's time for the blouse, and order about three to four weeks before the wedding. Open the parcel the day it arrives: report damaged, defective, or incorrect items within 48 hours, with photos or video.

Most of our sarees are single pieces, so if you love one, don't wait for the last week.

Frequently asked questions

What colour should a wedding guest avoid?

Bridal red and the heaviest gold zari. If the family has a colour theme, follow it.

Is Banarasi or Baluchari better for a wedding?

Both belong. Banarasi is the classic bridal choice; Baluchari suits family members and guests who want heritage without bridal weight.

How early should I buy a wedding saree?

Three to four weeks before the wedding gives time for delivery and blouse stitching.

Can I wear a Kantha saree to a wedding?

Yes. A densely stitched Kantha on tussar silk works well for daytime rituals and family functions.
